It all started out with two gigs at the old Deanna's on Rivington Street and some rehearsals in an old basement on the lower east side, across from Hells Angels.

A collaboration of an Israeli pianist-composer, an American bassist and a German drummer— wait this is not a joke…it grew to be one of the most important projects in each of our lives.

Twenty years later, after two recordings for ECM Records that garnered great responses and many, many gigs worldwide, we gather again to celebrate with a new CD, on Sunnyside Records, "Colour". We did all the work on this one ourselves. We recorded it, produced it, chose the cover art, told our stories in the booklet. For the first time in a while, this was all ours. And we believe you can hear it in the music, too.

The musical canvass created by Fort and her trio is not something one merely gives a listen; it’s a cathartic musical journey that one experiences. It’s an experience wrapped in a collectively told and engaging story, the kind that can only be told when players intimately know each other, sometimes better than they know themselves. It took Fort and her trio twenty years to get to this magical place of trust and forbearance. From where I’m sitting, it was well worth the wait.
