Brandon Woody has been playing classical and jazz trumpet for 11 years now and composing for 6 years now. He is an alumni of the 2016-2017 Brubeck Institute Quintet , which is a full scholarship Jazz program in california that only accepts 5 people every 1-3 years and now attends the Manhattan school of music on a full ride. Brandon has won numerous competitions such as Berklee Jazz Workshop 2014, Young Arts in 2015 and 2016, BSA Concerto competition in 2016, Peabody concerto competition in 2016, Shenendoah Jazz Soloists Competition in 2016. Has studied privately with Cecile Bridgewater, Ambrose Akinmusire, Sean Jones, Tiger Okoshi, Andrew balio, Dontae Winslow, Leo Ott, Patrick Whitehead. Brandon has performed with Jon Faddis, Benny Maupin, Lewis Nash, Stefon Harris, Danilo Perez, Terri Lyne Carrington, Steve Wilson, Essiet Essiet, John Pattituci, Brian Jackson, Marcus Printup, Ed Simon, Mark Gross, Warren Wolf and Carmen Bradford. Brandon has performed at venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center Appel Room, Lincoln Center Atrium, The Meyerhoff, The Lyric Opera House, The Kimmel Center, The Harlem Stage, Minton’s Playhouse, Nublu, Martha’s Vineyard Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Watts Tower Jazz Fest LA, Davis Jazz Festival, An die Musik, Highline Ballroom, Suny Purchase, Zinc Bar, Twins Jazz Club, Wally's, Dizzy’s Jazz Club Coca Cola. Brandon recently opened up for the Newport Jazz Festival, and performed in the Danilo Perez Band.Brandon works for the New Jersey Performance Arts Center currently teaching middle school and high school kids in the James Moody Jazz Orchestra with Mark Gross. Brandon leads his own group under the name of Upendo, which means love in Swahili. He recently was selected to perform Clifford Brown and Strings and the music of Clifford Brown and Max Roach with his mentor Jon Faddis. Brandon will be going on tour to Japan this summer with Vincent Herring....
