J.D. Parran, director of Y’ALL of NYC, states; “This will be Y'all of New York's first event ever at Greenwich House Music School. We are excited to be engaged in new partnerships this year. This is a wonderful event for new music and Jazz fans.”
Y’ALL of NYC, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the composition, development, promotion, and preservation of creative music. The organization sponsors educational classes and forums, produces concerts, and promotes the works of composers of creative music. Each year Y’ALL of NYC holds a Friend of the Family Awards Concert honoring a committed supporter of jazz and its musicians. This year Y’ALL of NYC award recipient is Thomas Buckner.
Thomas Buckner has currently received the American Music Center’s Letter of Distinction award. Buckner has for four decades, championed music of the avant-garde in America and throughout the world as a performer, producer, and promoter. He is featured on over 40 recordings, including six of his own solo albums. For the past 20 years, Buckner has co-produced the Interpretations series in New York City. He also created the Mutable Music record label to produce new recordings and reissue some important historic recordings, previously unavailable in CD format.
The past year’s activities for YALL of NYC’s include; a Friend of the Family Awards Concert honoring Mike and Dorothy Longo, a series of collaborative events with the African American Studies Program at Colby College in Maine, a Mentoring Musicians Program for students and a steady history of partnership with the Harlem School for the Arts, Northeastern University, Longar Ebony Ensemble, Brooklyn College and most currently with the Greenwich House Music.
